Compass Islands — a speculative masterplan for a new floating innovation district off the coast of New York City. The project explores the possibility of low-carbon, resilient urban development on water, offering a test case for adaptive, climate-responsive design at scale.
The masterplan is organised around a series of interconnected islands, each with a distinct programme — research, residential, civic, and ecological — linked by a network of pedestrian bridges and water transit routes.
Sustainability is central to the concept: net-positive energy generation, integrated water management, and a constructed ecological habitat form the foundation of the design strategy.
